Environmental Education Centers in Europe: New reactivators and urban attractors

Authors

  • Manuel Fonseca Gallego Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Abstract

Environmental education centres, as figures of new reactivators and urban attractors, could achieve their functions in the following conclusions: They serve as a bridge on the limit between the urban and natural environment, and are activators of a social-environmental awareness. They teach future generations to respect the environment, and incorporate passive/active bioclimatic strategies. They work with construction techniques, materials and local labour, and become laboratories for the development of new bioclimatic techniques. Likewise, they use natural and recyclable materials, promote architectural sustainability, and have a specific program aimed at environmental education. They also complement school environmental education programs and strengthen the controlled protection of the natural environment.
