Abstract

Causal constructions are a type of improper adverbial subordinate constructions. As it has been previously analyzed, causal conjunctions in different languages are specialized in different types of interpretation. In Spanish, conjuncion que and como que can be used in subordinate contexts or introducing an independent sentence. In this paper, I will search for the special values of que and como que in causal interpretations: when they head a subordinate structure or an independent sentence. Following Garrido (2013) I will accept that speaker can connect two constituents in the discourse. The mechanisms that allow speakers connect two sentences can vary and depend on the conjunction. In causal constructions, the source of information and the speaker`s volition are the ways to connect two sentence.
